Skype drops web support for Safari, Firefox

The new Skype for Web client that Microsoft released on Thursday isn’t functional on several browsers, the company confirmed to VentureBeat today. The revamped version of the company’s messaging and video chat client only supports Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome — and Chromium-based browsers such as Vivaldi — but not Apple’s Safari, Mozilla’s Firefox, or Opera.

Herein lies the problem with development of web applications focusing strictly on Blink/Chrome and the basis for comparing Chrome to what Internet Explorer used to be.

If this were strictly a feature availability issue, Microsoft is in a position to work with other  browser vendors rather than abandoning them and users in the process.
